Spring is a Great Time to Get Out and Volunteer

Shake out those cobwebs and dust off the winter blues by giving back to your community through volunteering. Giving back has been shown to improve mood and outlook, and provides opportunities to make new friends and gain new skills. It just takes a willing heart and whatever time you have to spare. First, make a list of what you care about—what your passions are—and what help you can lend. Then check out a site like VolunteerMatch.org where you can sort by location, cause areas, age groups and more! Contact your local United Way, school or religious organization and ask how you can help. When you contact the organization be clear about what type of help you can provide and what kind of commitment you are willing to make—whether it be for one special event or on an on-going basis. Then get ready to have fun, meet new people, feel good, and know you’ve made a positive impact on someone else’s life!
